(To meditate or to meditate…. Honestly, I would rather lounge a little, sit in my easy chair with a cup of tea or hot cocoa, and read poetry out loud. And that’s the truth! π)
keeping it simple....reflecting on life with pictures and poems in the Japanese tradition of Zen
480. ….and that’s the truth!
479. looking ahead π
(When things aren’t going your way, it helps to find something to look forward to π!)
478. C-H-A-O-S
(I was just thinking: What if chaos was only a five-letter word for change, the ongoing change that cannot be changed, so intertwined is it in the great web of Life itself? What if we could not make change a big deal? Just settle down with the changing scenery of the passing seasons….and just flow with it….and maybe make our own needed change along with it.)
477. kooky
476. looking for an angel?
475. scratching my head
474. waiting….
(This is a picture of my next painting—a Japanese tea bowl—taking on form, waiting for color to emerge.)
473. be a mushroom
(Walking in my neighborhood, I was surprised to see these mushrooms at the foot of a tree. I didn’t think mushrooms would grow in winter. I was mistaken. I googled the question and learned that many varieties of wild edible and medicinal mushrooms thrive year-round. These are called “Velvet Foot.”)
472. keeping an eye on things
(If I keep an eye on Dan long enough, I can always get an interesting picture….we’ll, almost always.)
470. what’s green?
469. still life with orange
(I spent a lot of time alone when I was a kid, and learned to occupy my mind and hands with whatever was close at hand. Seems I still do. One Sunday morning as I was waiting for breakfast, I found myself arranging the table in different ways, like composing a pleasing scene for a still life painting.)
468. the pose
467. this time it’s FaceTime
464. his nose
(This is a gift from Dan made by Dan. It’s a little ceramic oil lamp with a little ceramic flame. I made a paper flower for it. I love it….and so does Willey!)
466. just imagine….
465. full up!
(Whenever there’s a forecast for snow, I always look around for the sun and that’s a snow sun for sure. Hey, how’d she take that picture?)
463. things change, and yet
(Standing by, observing the changing tides of man….and in the end, heaven and earth shall prevail.)
462. just looking
461. my reverie….
(A different kind of selfie: when I was 4, Johnnie Ray told me I’d grow up to be Miss America….when I was 12, I was the sixth grade marble champ….and now at 75, no need to accomplish anything….I am who I am, a happy old dog—I was born in the Chinese Year of the Dog πΆ)
460. out on a limb
(“If they would teach us from the time we’re little to meditate and get in touch with all that our souls know, we wouldn’t fight so much.” —from “Out On a Limb,” by Shirley MacLaine)
This is a mixed media origami picture: 5 x 7” - paper, watercolor, beads
457. sweet dreams
455. yum
(I enjoy a good book with dinner. “Another Day Not Wasted: Meditations on Photography, Art, and Wildness.” This was a Christmas gift—thanks again, Liz.)
454. dreaming of summer
453. winter woods
(Now and then when feelings of loneliness creep in, I go to the woods and walk a while among the trees….and I feel at home among friends.)
452. the cat’s meow
(In my next lifetime, I want to be a fat and happy cat! Well, maybe not quite fat, just a little plump. π»)
451. fairy cups
(Nothing like a leisurely walk to bring me down to earth. My senses are always taken by the beautiful bounty to be discovered in the woods.)
449. just do it!
(Happy New Year! Make it a Great Year!)
