A quiet dinner—stir-fried minced pork and string beans with peanuts and a bowl of white rice, sipping brandied sweet vermouth and a cup of green tea—listening to the smooth, silky sounds of Johnny Hartman, Etta Jones, and Ella. Feeling mellow, I paused eating, picked up my camera and waved. A sweet, silly thing to do…. just like my mom. I like that part of me.
