Crossing over to the other side of the creek, up the long winding hill and past the old Indian overlooking the Wissahickon Woods, this brown walnut-size nut caught my attention. It looked like an ornament. It was unusual in that it wasn’t hanging from a stem but from the very tip of a long leaf; it looked like an oak leaf though this wasn’t an acorn. And, yes, it was as ‘heavy as a feather!’ I looked and saw that there were many other nuts hung ‘round the little tree, like the woods’ very own little Wissahickon Christmas Tree.
