—the heat is on….ohh noo, triple digits!

259. the way home

bawk-back-bawk….bawk
following the yellow brick road
peck-by-peck

—in “The Wizard of Oz,” following the yellow brick road was the path home.

look me up, look
me down—what’s up
with this picture?

—can you see what’s wrong with this picture?

255. at rest

no longer fluttering
beneath this bed of stone
baby blue bird

—honoring all the baby birds who never learned to flutter and fly….who never experienced the sky….who never felt the wind in their wings….never tasted a worm….never mated and gave birth to a new life.  (on the trail one day, we found a baby blue jay, still soft and tender, and we dug a grave and covered it with this stone.)

254. treasure seekers

digging for treasure
in the roots of an ancient tree—
young forest ramblers

250. sunshine and shadows

somewhere
between the past and future
just this moment

seagulls and sandals
sunny skies and ferris wheels🎡

(origami quilt, hand-folded paper and threads, 22x22)

247. cheek to cheek

cheek to cheek
passing the time of day
together

—so in the moment, these two horses sharing a moment of togetherness.

traveling around close to home, i am fortunate to always see packs of animals—cows, sheep, horses, goats, deer, geese—always together grazing or simply resting. this is for me somehow comforting.   they remind me of the beauty of belonging, mutual belonging….they seem so at peace and free.  i sometimes wonder if this is why god put them on earth for us.

245. as above so below….

particles of life
a moment in time…..
transforming

—the foundation of the universe is held together by the magnetic forces of life—expansion and contraction, repulsion and attraction.   everything is connected, held together by emptiness, yet nothing is solid or certain.  there is only the ongoing display of the endless transformation of life from spirit to matter in its myriad forms.  (above is my photo of sand on the beach. below is a picture of one galaxy, one of the many billions of galaxies in the universe….as above, so below.)

244. the two musketeers

the two musketeers
getting away from the sun
….and a fox

—tommy and dan heading to the bench for a treat….where’d that fox come from??!

243. peak experience

the old gull
and the sea….
standing in time

— rush….rush….rush….we are always chasing after time.   what is time anyway….is time really real….why does time stress us so?   what if we could learn to be still and just be in the moment, moment to moment?

242. to the light house

one more year gone by
a vision of more to come
on the horizon

—it’s my birthday and i’m celebrating!

reading books & pushing chocolate:
guilty as charged!

—our local library, now open post-Covid, is welcoming patrons back with a poster campaign—GET CAUGHT READING—featuring a lineup of people caught with the goods.

240. plan b

squeezed tight
between a rock and a hard place—
what to do??

*
do not panic
do not fear….just turn around and
go the other way

—ode to a chipmunk:  with no room to spare in this split rock, the chipmunk was pressing its way down- down-down.  at the sight of my face, it right away froze….geezooey!!  then in a split second, the chipmunk made a 180 degree turn and scurried up-up-up-up and out the top.  Bravo!

(tap on this picture)

239. bird at dawn

unfettered
by the old ball and chain
free as a bird

—every morning the birds begin their day by singing….can we do the same?  do-be-do-be-do….sing and be happy.

238. the heat is on….

taking shelter
in a shade of green leaves
laying low

—when things get hot—in the weather or in the moment— sometimes the best action is simply to hunker down, lay low, and wait it out….like a strawberry!🍓

237. not much to say

not much to say
morning heat on the rise—
laying low

236. down by the river

running, cycling, driving
wherever i go there i am
i’m in it!

—ever since i was a kid, road trips made me happy.  there was always so much to see....and imagine.  i especially like being in the driver’s seat;  riding gunshot can be fun, too, especially armed with a camera!

234. flashback

flashback:
middle of the moment moment
….capturing time

—scrolling back in my photos, this one taken seven years ago, thinking about what we were doing then and what we’re doing now. Back then it was his love of urban photography that rekindled my own earlier interest in using the camera to create and have fun.  Today we’re still taking pictures, still creating and still having fun.

233. equilibrium

standing tall
between heaven and earth
savoring it all

—some days are easy, some days are tough....riding  the ups and downs, the yin and yang of life, doing my best to appreciate what comes my way.

232. thoughts are creative

thoughts are things
where do they come from
where do they go

—thoughts create our reality and when thoughts remain, they become more and more complex, more and more rich, creating richness....or rubbish.  whose thoughts are you thinking, are they really yours?
